Read and Write Your Analysis on “Taking Sides” Issues

ANALYTICAL Taking Sides ESSAY: This assignment calls for logical analytical writing, rather than recall narrative writing and is designed to measure SLO #1: Students will develop analytical skills in relation to historical time period, cause and effect.

Your “Taking Sides” essay is due by 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014. Late papers will NOT be accepted.

Taking Sides: Clashing Views in United States History, Volume 2, 15th Edition

You are required to read and post on five Taking Sides issues throughout the course. (#4,#6,#11,#14,#17) For your Taking Sides essay you will choose an issue that is NOT part of your regular reading assignment.

Your essay should clearly present the controversial Taking Sides issue you have chosen to explore, explain the opposing viewpoints of the Taking Sides authors who debate this topic, analyze the evidence both authors use to support their position, explain the issue’s impact on the historical time period and then present and defend your point of view.

Your essay should be composed of three main parts:

1. The introduction or opening paragraph of your essay should clearly convey to the reader that the debate takes place in Taking Sides, the topic of the debate, and the importance of the issue in regard to the historical time period in which the debate is centered. In addition, your introduction should summarize the varying viewpoints of the historians debating this topic. It is also important that you declare your thesis or your point of view concerning the issue being discussed in the introduction. You must pick a side, or present a new perspective/thesis to answer the question presented in the debate.

2. The body of your paper should consist of at least four sections. Begin with two paragraphs that explain each author’s position and evidence (at least one paragraph explaining each author’s position). Follow with at least one paragraph that explains your analysis of the authors’ evidence and ability to persuade the reader. Next present your thesis/point of view. Your point of view should be accompanied by an explanation of how you came to your conclusion. Be sure to offer a thorough explanation of your position, how you came to your conclusions and the evidence to support your position. Your evidence may include key points made by the authors in the Taking Sides essays or other outside sources. Outside sources are optional unless you have a thesis that requires additional outside support.

3. In the final paragraph, or the conclusion, you must restate the issue being debated, the impact or importance of this issue in regard to the historical time period, the varying Taking Sides perspectives concerning this topic, as well as your position. The conclusion should be used to remind the reader of all that has been written in the essay, and then it should end with a final statement of significance or thought concerning the issue you have chosen to discuss.

Essay set-up: Each paper should be 6 pages in length, typed and double-spaced, with one inch margins. Your name and the issue number should appear single-spaced in the upper right hand corner, and the title of your paper should be centered in the middle of the page two spaces below your name and the issue number.  Double space and begin body of your paper.

Role of a Leader, writing homework help

Project One Role of the Leader

Purpose:

In the first assignment, students are given a scenario about Global Delivery Direct (GDD), a Norfolk, England medium-sized global delivery company that was started in 1968 by four college friends.  In this project, students will demonstrate an understanding of the broad role of a leader within an organization.

Outcome Met by Completing This Assignment

  • develop and implement methods for establishing a constructive organizational structure and culture that fosters positive employee and employer relationships
  • evaluate the culture and policies of an organization to recommend and implement improvements that support its vision, success, and sustainability
  • assess the interactions between the external environment and the organization to foster responsible and effective leadership and organizational practices

In Part One students will explain the executive leader’s role in creating an organizational structure and learn to distinguish the different organizational structures and how decision making plays a role in the organizational structure.  Students gain an understanding of the challenges related to organizational structure and organizational culture that a leader faces when merging two companies to create a competitive advantage.

In Part Two students have the opportunity to research the merger of two well-known companies with the goal of assessing what happens when two very different organizational cultures are joined as one.  Taking what is learned from the merger, students apply concepts and ideas to Global Delivery Direct (GDD).

Instructions

Step 1: Review “How to Analyze a Case Study” under Week 4 Content.

Step 2:  Create a Word or Rich Text Format (RTF) document that is double-spaced, 12-point font.  The final product will be between 4-6 pages in length excluding the title page and reference page.

Step 3: Review the grading rubric for the assignment.

Step 4:  In addition to providing an introduction, students will use headings following this format:

  • Title page with title, your name, the course, the instructor’s name;
  • Background;
  • Part One;
  • Part Two.

Step 5:  In writing a case study, the writing is in the third person.  What this means is that there are no words such as “I, me, my, we, or us” (first person writing), nor is there use of “you or your” (second person writing).  If uncertain how to write in the third person, view this link: http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/first-second-and-third-person.  Also note that students are not to provide personal commentary.

Step 6:  In writing this assignment, students are expected to support the reasoning using in-text citations and a reference list.  If any material is used from a source document, it must be cited and referenced.  A reference within a reference list cannot exist without an associated in-text citation and vice versa.  View the sample APA paper under Week 1 content.

Step 7:  In writing this assignment, students will use resources from the course material and no more than 4 external source documents. NOTE:  The expectation is that students provide a robust use of the course material.  Students may use external resources to address the research for FedEx and Kinko’s but other material should come from the course readings.

Step 8:  In completing the assignment, students are expected to use the facts from the case study paired with the weekly courses readings to develop the analysis.  The case study is not cited or referenced.

Step 9: In writing this assignment, students are expected to paraphrase and not use direct quotes.  Students are expected to paraphrase, which can be learned by reviewing this link: https://writing.wisc.edu/Handbook/QPA_paraphrase2.html

Step 11:  Read and use the Global Delivery Direct (GDD) Company Profile.

Step 12:  Read critically and analyze the following scenario:

Part One

Scenario:

Andrew Rockfish is looking for a competitive edge in the North American market that will translate well to the other divisions.  After talking to the other directors, they have decided to focus on business only and stop their individual services.  While they will lose 10% of their sales, this change will allow the company to offer “boutique” services to its business customers, thereby increasing prices.  Catering to business only will also allow them to provide personal services that Fed Ex and UPS cannot offer.  It was decided that the initial roll out of this idea would start in the US where the most imminent threat from competition lies.  Rockfish was on board with this idea and began a campaign among the rest of the company to find ideas that would help to encourage the new ‘Business First” strategic plan.

In response, a sales manager from his mid-west sales team brought this idea from their brainstorming session for his consideration.  He proposed creating several mobile packing stores to bring customer service to business directly.  GDD would not just pick up and deliver but they would package as well. This model could be viewed as an UPS store on wheels.  The team got the idea from a local delivery service that started a similar business as a Mail Store on Wheels and it seemed to be doing well.  This company has five “Mail on Wheels” trucks and focuses on taking small business, not individuals away from the three local UPS and Kinko stores.  After a financial review of the company, Rockfish decided to buy the business.

The business was started by a young entrepreneur, Adrian Cheng, who ran the business with the philosophy that “customers always get the best of our time and service”.  Personal service, friendliness, and as much time as it takes to make the customer happy, was part of the mission statement.  Employees were casually dressed and had no deadlines except those given by the customer.  Cheng had about 45 employees and ran both day and evening shifts. He had one van which was on call twenty-four/seven. Cheng oversaw the whole operation with two assistant managers, one for the day shift and one for the evening.

Rockfish liked the idea that personnel had been trained in giving personal service and had a boutique attitude when it came to customers.  He thought it was a perfect fit as the new face of GDD. The merger of these two companies seemed ideal. He decided to buy the existing business, expand it and have the new personnel trained by the current personnel.

Part One: Below are a series of organizational structures that exemplify the potential structure that Rockfish will consider in putting the two companies together.

  • Explain the executive leader’s role in creating an organizational structure, the purpose of a structure, and why the leader, not the manager, is the best person to determine the organizational structure;
  • Identify each structure below and discuss the associated decision making flow and the advantages and disadvantages associated with the structure;
  • Select the structure from those below that best blends the two companies (GDD and Mail on Wheels) and explain why the type of structure best fits the purpose of the merger. Discussion should include the decision making flow, the alignment of people to the selected structure and how the two companies would interface to create a competitive advantage.

Part Two

Scenario:

Part Two: Rockfish knows that in addition to a possible new structure, he will have to revisit the company culture as well as that of the new business acquisition.  Anxious to avoid the problems of Fed Ex and Kinko, Rockfish decides to review their problems and the existing culture to determine just how to go about blending the cultures and structures together.

  • Research the Fed Ex and Kinko merger. Identify the organizational cultures of the two companies and the problems that resulted from the attempt to blend the two cultures.
  • Explain how the problems that Fed Ex and Kinko faced might parallel those for GDD’s merger. Be sure to include in the analysis the existing cultures at GDD and Mail on Wheels as well as how the structure relates to the culture.
  • Discuss how Rockfish can avoid the same mistakes as Fed Ex.

Step 13:  Create the introductory paragraph.  Within this paragraph, provide a brief overview of the scenario.  Then, provide a thesis statement and tell the reader the main topics covered in the paper.  The introductory paragraph is the first paragraph of the paper but is typically written after writing the body of the paper (Questions students responded to above).  View this website to learn how to write an introductory paragraph: http://www.writing.ucsb.edu/faculty/donelan/intro.html

Step 14:  Respond to the questions in Part One and Part Two following the format provided.  Be clear and concise in the writing and make sure the questions are comprehensively answered.

Step 15: Using the grading rubric as a comparison, read through the paper to ensure all required elements are presented.

Step 16: Proofread the paper for spelling and grammatical issues, and third person writing.

  • Use the spell and grammar check in Word as a first measure;
  • Have someone who has excellent English skills to proof the paper;
  • Consider submitting the paper to the Effective Writing Center (EWC).  The EWC will provide 4-6 areas that may need improvement.

Authentic Leadership And Team Leadership Approaches Theories Essay

Authentic Leadership and Team Leadership Approaches

Has anyone ever been dishonest with you? Have you been dishonest with anyone? Honesty in relationships is one of the foundations of the Authentic Leadership theory. As one of the more recently identified theories of leadership, a simple definition of Authentic Leadership is the focus of much research and debate. From an intrapersonal perspective to an interpersonal process and a developmental approach, Authentic Leadership traits are developed over a lifetime and are triggered by life events.

Like Authentic Leadership, Team Leadership is another recently identified theory of leadership. Where Authentic Leadership focuses on the trust developed between a leader and subordinates, Team Leadership theory identifies leadership as one of the most important influences for team effectiveness and success. This week, you learn about team/leader relationships and the impact that Authentic Leadership can have on those relationships.

Learning Objectives

Students will:
  • Compare the characteristics of leadership approaches or theories to Authentic Leadership
  • Compare the characteristics of leadership approaches or theories to Team Leadership
  • Analyze how the characteristics of Authentic Leadership and Team Leadership impact personal leadership style

Authentic Leadership and Team Leadership

Authentic Leadership is a relatively new leadership approach and as a result much more research is needed. There is no standard, accepted definition of Authentic Leadership but it can best be described as transparent, responsible to people’s needs, and adhering to a moral code. It is becoming more popular as a response to leadership failures in both the private and public sectors.

Teams have become more of a fixture in both the public and private sectors, and as a result, there is a greater interest in Team Leadership. Team Leadership posits that the critical function of leadership is to oversee the group, identify the problems, and take appropriate action. Team leadership is popular because it identifies the functions that a leader can share within the team.

For this Discussion, reflect on the leadership approaches or theories you have discussed throughout this course, select one of the approaches or theories that appeals to you. Consider the characteristics of your selected approach or theory. Consider the characteristics of Authentic Leadership and of Team Leadership.

this the question

Write a description of the approach or theory you selected. Compare the characteristics of the approach or theory you selected to those of Authentic Leadership and Team Leadership. Using your own experience, share an example of a situation that demonstrates this relationship. Describe the impact of that relationship. Use an example from your personal experience with this type of leadership or one from the Learning Resources.?

assignment 1

You need to find Alice 3 stocks to invest in from different segments of the market. The stocks should come from 3 varied sectors of the market: automotive, drug, and retail. Once you have identified the 3 stocks, you need to find the current yield of the 10-year treasury bond and calculate the required rate of return for each of them. Show all of your work so that you can explain to Alice how risk affects your expectations. Alice wants to earn 15% in the market despite the markets risks.

Part 2

Alice Cartwright is now 45 years old. Over the past several years, she has been struggling to fund her nest egg for retirement. Every time she thought about how much money she needed to retire on, she became frustrated and lost confidence. This past September, she inherited $500,000 from her favorite aunt who recently passed away. She wants to retire as soon as her portfolio reaches $1,000,000. She would like to achieve this goal within the next 5 years.

You and your team need to construct a portfolio for Alice. The portfolio should consist of at least 15 different investments; it should demonstrate to her how to invest the money for the long term. When constructing the portfolio, risk and principle protection are paramount. The client is risk adverse and does not want to lose principle. You need to project savings. Ultimately, she would like to generate about 40k in after-tax income from the portfolio as retirement income. The current CD rates will not generate the required cash return that Alice wants because they are only 1%. The expected return in the market has an anemic return of just 3%, because the United States we are just coming off a long bull market run and is entering a period of a bear market, which is expected to last 3 years. Alice wants her stocks to have low PEs and low betas.

Individual Portion:

Select stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, and so on that you feel are right for Alice. Determine the appropriate mix of investments. Give an explanation as to why you think the investments will meet the needs of the client along with your projections of how these investments will meet the cash demands of the future.

This is the other assignment i need done but i need this one by wednesday night i will pay for it now

Building a brand is a crucial exercise that often takes years or decades to accomplish. The benefit of brand equity is realized in the bottom line. You researched brand equity from a consumer standpoint. For this assignment, you will select a big national or international brand that has advertisements that feature a famous person or persons.

Part 1: Research Background

Research the selected brand using both its Web site and articles in the AIU Library’s full-text databases, and address the following:

  • What does the brand mean in today’s market?
  • How has it evolved over time?
  • What is the target market(s) for the brand? Has that changed from the past?
  • How is the competition positioned?

This section of the assignment requires the use of articles from the AIU Library’s full-text databases. Articles are found in periodicals. These are not to be confused with eBooks or reference books. The most popular databases in marketing are: ABI Inform Global, Academic Search Premier, and Business Source Premier. This section of the paper should be at least 2 pages in length.

Part 2: Application

Marketing is not all serious research involving scholarly, statistical, and practitioner resources; it is also about trends, buzz, and pop culture of the day. Actors, models, musicians, athletes, and reality stars of the moment are hounded by the press. Their lives unfold in the media, and many are seen wearing, carrying, eating, or driving a particular brand. For this section, you may research the following in any media outlet:

  • What celebrities endorse your brand? Why are they a good fit? To what target market do they connect?
  • What other famous characters could be connected to your brand? Explain why.
  • What about the competition? What kind of endorsers do they use?

This section of the paper should be at least 2 pages in length.

Your report must include a reference list. All research should be cited in the body of the paper. In-text citations and corresponding references should be included in your paper. For more information on APA, please visit the APA Lab. The paper should be written in third person; this means words like Iwe, and you are not appropriate. The use of direct quotes is discouraged but may be used sparingly in appropriate situations.

Your assignment should contain a cover page, an abstract page, and a reference page in addition to the body. The body of the paper should be 4–5 pages in length, starting with a brief 1-paragraph introduction and ending with a short conclusion. The entire submission will be 7–8 pages in length.

Discrimination: Reflection and Interview

Watch the Frontline program online.

Frontline: A Class Dividedhttp://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/divided/

A Class Divided explores the nature of prejudice. Third grade teacher Jane Elliott deliberately created a classroom situation to teach her students how it feels to be on the receiving end of discrimination. This is an encore presentation of the classic documentary on third-grade teacher Jane Elliott’s “blue eyes/brown eyes” exercise, originally conducted in the days following the assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. This classic classroom experiment, conducted in the late 1960s in a small Midwestern town, demonstrates how quickly and easily schoolchildren can internalize prejudice and discriminate. Years later, these children discuss the valuable lessons they learned from this experiment. Elliott employs this same teaching strategy with a group of adults in the workplace, and discusses their reactions.

This assignment is designed to allow you to synthesize what you have been learning about the various dimensions of diversity and the necessity of treating everyone in an inclusive, sensitive and respectful manner.

Discrimination Paper Part I: Interpersonal Reflection

After viewing the video, consider the following questions and write your response. Your response should be 4-5 pages and should address each question thoroughly, reflecting an accurate representation of what you have learned in this course. Demonstrate scholarship by utilizing supporting resources to justify your ideas and responses:

  • What did you learn from the film? What scene or scenes do you think you’ll still remember a month from now and why those scenes?
  • Did any part of the film surprise you? Do you think someone with a disability, of a different sexual orientation, an older American or some of a different religion would also find it surprising? Why or why not?
  • Both Elliott and her former students talk about whether this exercise should be done with all children. What do you think? If the exercise could be harmful to children, as Elliott suggests, what do you think actual discrimination might do? Use an example, different from the example you used to describe labels, from what you have learned about people with disabilities, older people, sexual minorities, or people of differing religions.
  • How can negative and positive labels placed on a group become self-fulfilling prophecies? Use an example from what you have learned about people with disabilities, older people, sexual minorities, or people of differing religions.
  • Based on what you have learned in this course, discuss an example (either from the video or from your experiences) that illustrates each of the following statements:
    • Dimensions of diversity may be hidden or visible.
    • Dimensions of diversity are in a constant state of flux.
    • Dimensions of diversity are not always clear-cut or easily defined.

Discrimination Paper Part II: Personal Interview

For Part II of this assignment, you will have a conversation with someone who you feel may have faced discrimination. Examples include someone with a disability, an older American, someone who is a sexual minority, or someone who lives in a multicultural family. After choosing an individual to interview, explain to this individual what you have seen in the Class Divided program. Invite them to watch the program, or parts of the program, with you. After watching or discussing the program, pose the following questions to the individual. Be sure to explain the reason for your questions and why you have selected them to participate in the interview:

  • What, if any, discrimination do you experience?
  • How have you coped with this situation?
  • What do you think needs to change at the cultural level to reduce discrimination?

Following your refection (Part I listed above), add 2-3 pages to your paper which addresses the following:

  • A description of the individual you chose to interview and why. Explain how you went about approaching this individual for the interview.
  • What are your observations about the person’s view of discrimination and how it affects his/her daily life?
  • Did the interaction with the person change your view of discrimination? If so, explain how the interaction has affected you either positively or negatively. If it did not change your view of discrimination, explain why.
  • How well do you think you would cope with discrimination from this person’s perspective?
  • Finally, what is the best manner in which to advocate for those facing discrimination? What actions will you change based on what you have learned in this course and how will you serve as an advocate for those individuals who face discrimination?

Your final assignment, consisting of both Part I and II, should be approximately 6 -8 pages. Be sure to address each topic listed above and, as appropriate, cite the online course, the textbook, and other credible sources to substantiate the points you are making. For example, when discussing an example of how diversity may be hidden or invisible cite sources, which you have referenced to substantiate the points you are making.
