Psychology  Biology Discussion

Week 1: Introduction to the Science of BiologyImagine you are beginning your daily late afternoon jog on a wooded path near your home. As you begin your long strides, you breathe in the crisp air, feeling your leg muscles stretch and your heart pound. You look around and notice that leaves on the trees are beginning to change color. A squirrel scampers through the grass to your right. A startled deer on the left raises its head, staring briefly at you before turning to run with its white tail bobbing behind. This may be a daily routine, but it is an exhilarating experience. It feels great to be alive and experience nature. You may not take much time to think about the life in your body or the life around you, but it is there, and it is amazingly complex. Biology is the science that studies life, and it would have a lot to say about the scene described above. This week, you begin to explore biology and the process of science. You learn what the scientific method is and how scientists use it to learn more about the nature of life. You also begin to learn about the building blocks of life.Note that this course contains three different graded assessment items in addition to Discussions and Assignments. Each week, you complete a 10-question Self-Assessment Quiz and a 20-question Weekly Exam. In Week 6, you complete a 60-question Final Exam that covers content for the entire course. The following schedule outlines your assignments and due dates for Week 1.Due ByAssignmentDay 2Post your Discussion Spark response.Day 3Complete the Cell Structure and Function Virtual Lab.Day 3Begin Part 1 of the Osmosis Lab.Day 4Post your Discussion Assignment.Day 5Complete Part 1 of the Osmosis Lab and begin Part 2.Day 5Complete the Self-Assessment Quiz.Day 7Post responses to at least two of your colleagues’ Discussion posts.Day 7Complete the Weekly Exam.Day 7Complete Part 2 of the Osmosis Lab. Then, complete the Osmosis Lab Report and submit it as the Assignment.Learning ObjectivesStudents will:Apply the scientific method to solve a problem or answer a questionDistinguish science from non-scienceExplain the role of biochemistry in cell biologyDemonstrate mastery of concepts related to the scientific method, cell types, structures, and functionsLearning ResourcesRequired ReadingsBelk, C., & Maier, V. These are questions a young child may ask about the world based on his or her observations and experiences. As children grow older, their inquisitive nature may begin to fade. Anyone involved in the scientific process, however, must continually make observations and ask questions about his or her observations. In addition, scientists suggest possible answers to their questions and then test their ideas to determine if they are correct. This process is known as the scientific method. The scientific method, however, does not answer every question about the universe. For example, it cannot answer questions such as “Is there a god?” or “What is the true meaning of life?” As you begin your exploration of biology this week, you consider the nature of science and how the scientific approach to the world differs from others, such as philosophical or spiritual approaches. Then, you apply this understanding by identifying a situation in which you can apply the scientific method and a situation in which you cannot. To prepare for this Discussion:Consider the question posed by the Chapter 1 title of Biology: Science for Life: “Can Science Cure the Common Cold?” Think of a few additional questions science could answer. How do you think science might find answers to these questions?Review Chapter 1, “Can Science Cure the Common Cold?” in Biology: Science for Life, and consider how the scientific method tests ideas and attempts to find answers to questions. For example,What is a hypothesis? How does an experiment test a hypothesis? Why is the experimental process essential to science?Review the articles in this week’s Required Resources. In the article “The Nature of Science,” note the characteristics of scientific inquiry—that is, how scientists study phenomena to arrive at evidence-based conclusions.Pay special attention to the Reality Check activity in the article “How Can We Tell Science from Non-Science?” Consider what distinguishes the scientific statements from the non-scientific ones.Read the Discussion Spark topic/question or comment posted by your Instructor in the Discussion Thread on Day 1.With these thoughts in mind:By Day 2Post a 1- to 2-paragraph response to the Discussion Spark.Important Note: The Discussion Spark and the weekly Discussion topic below will be graded together. You will see one score in your My Grades area.By Day 4Post two or more paragraphs that distinguish the nature of science from non-science and that explain how the scientific method can be used to answer a question or solve a problem.Your post should include the following:Three characteristics of a scientific approach to the worldA real-life example of how the scientific method was or could be applied to solve a problem or answer a questionA real-life scenario that cannot be tested scientificallyReferences to at least two sources outside the Required ResourcesAll references cited in APA formatRead a selection of your colleagues’ postings.By Day 7Respond to at least two of your colleagues’ postings. Then, you apply this understanding by identifying a situation in which you can apply the scientific method and a situation in which you cannot. To prepare for this Discussion:Make certain that you understand how to avoid plagiary. In a science course you will be writing about concepts and facts that you may not be intimately familiar with so there will be a temptation to rely on the phrases and sentences used by more authoritative authors. You can use the facts of other authors by citing them but you cannot use exact phrases and sentences without enclosing the quotation within quotation marks to indicate that you did not write that phrase.  Use the SafeAssign or Turnitin draft options in our course to check your posts for plagiary. Psychology  Behavior Theory Leadership Style Response

Please respond to Leslie’s post with one scholarly source…After reading the assigned readings for this week and going over the lesson, I have concluded that in my opinion, the most effective leadership style is the Leadership Behavior theory. I think that being an effective leader is based on your behavior. How well you can lead a group, make them become successful and keep them on the right track. In the textbook within the leadership behavior theory portion, it breaks leadership down into three categories. Autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire. “The democratic style emphasizes the group and majority rule.” (Manning 2018). In this type of leadership, the opinion of the group matters, and the decisions are made based on what is best for everyone not just the leader, which I also think is an effective quality for a leader. Democratic style leaderships are very effective because the group and leader are involved in everything together. The leader always considers the group when making the decisions and always allows the group to voice their opinions. You can’t always make everyone in the group happy, but they try and keep the majority of the group happy. Kurt Lewin conducted a study that indicated that democratic leadership style was more beneficial for group performance than others. (Manning 2018).The Leadership Contingency Theory holds that the most appropriate leader qualities differ from situation to situation. (Manning 2018). There is no specific theory that is better than the other, it is just what it best for the situation and I also agree with that. Leaders must learn to adapt to the situations that lie Infront of them and do what is best for their team or organization. The democratic leadership style is most effective in most cases because it keeps everyone, for the most part, happy. The leader always has its members in mind. John Gastill says that democratic leadership is distinct from positions of authority, rather it is defined as responsibility throughout the group, empowering group members, and aiding their decision-making process. Agreeing that it is one of the most effective styles of leadership. Not just one person is in charge and making all the decisions based off what is best for them.ReferencesManning, George. The Art of Leadership. McGraw-Hill Higher Education (US), 2018. Psychology  Literature review

Literature review about Social Influence in PsychologyResearch Report (individual work that could be written in a group topic with the same workload per student), the work volume is given per person, groups with up to 6 group are recommended: Assessment 3 – Research Report: Topic Presentation (200 words) and Brief literature review of academically 4 credible sources with a bibliography in Harvard style with Conclusion (800 words), 1000 with +/-100 words waiver, words per student, without counting the reference list (30%), You should work on your topic associated with social psychology by developing your understanding of it though academic sources. 9 You should ideally use the findings of references you have evaluated as useful during an Annotated Bibliography exercise, which would optimise your efforts. Yet, you are welcome to use other sources, too. Please note that this is a Research Report assignment called a BRIEF LITERATURE REVIEW, meaning that your work will be evaluated on the basis of literature sources that you will synthesize to discuss a specific theory explaining one of the aspects of your topic. In general, the Research Report should have approximately 1’000 words: – an explanation of topic importance should contain about 200 words per individual student, – and a brief literature review may should contain about 800 words per individual student, excluding bibliography. Credibility of literature sources plays a particularly important role for the quality of your brief literature review. For doing a brief literature review on a theory from social psychology of your choice, use primarily credible academic sources (academic journal publications, book chapters, and academic research papers). Alternatively, you can use other sources, such as STR hotel analytics, HVS hospitality industry reports, industry reports, statistical publications, newspaper articles, and/or recognized professional association websites. However, the other sources do not count towards the credible academic source count.

Why or why not?Is the Christian worldview compatible with research      ethics in the field of psychology? Why or why not?To what extent should the Christian worldview influence      the type of psychology research conducted and the ethics of that research?      Why?To what extent do you perceive that the Christian      worldview will influence the topic and ethics of your intended      dissertation research? Why? Is this different than you expected? Why or      why not? (Benchmarks Relationships, Spirit, and Self-Discovery C8.1:      Appraise the evolution of one’s personal self and worldview.)

Psychology  7

In this unit’s Discussion Boards, you will explore how development affects the young adult’s ability to expand their social skills to create relationships that promote their sense of self.During early adulthood, adults face many new challenges related to leaving their families (physically and cognitively) to develop their own families. These families can include friends, intimate partners, and/or peer groups (such as coworkers) that serve as new “families.” Those who are unable to form these bonds suffer from increased feelings of isolation. In these years, adults develop their social skills to build relationships and continue to develop their sense of self in the comfort of these relationships.Using Erikson’s psychosocial theory, explain the importance of developing different types of relationships in early adulthood.Select one of the following topics from the list below and use the Library to search peer-reviewed journals to find an article on your chosen topic. Then, post the link to the article in the Discussion Thread and write a short summary of the research question, method of experimentation, and results. How can you use this information to help clients? After reviewing your classmates’ article and summary, how might the findings of the study be used to develop interventions to help clients? Remember that psychologists often work on teams, so use this opportunity to build interventions as a class (team).Topics:DivorceLifestyle choice (live alone, cohabitate, marry)LonelinessSocial relationship (any issue)
