Psychology  Week 6: Reviewing the Literature Accurately

As you complete your literature review, be very careful to make sure the sources you cite are actually saying the things that you say they are. It can be very tempting to search for articles on your topic, find an article that seems like it might support your claims based on its title or a skim of the abstract, and use it as a citation without taking the time to fully understand what the article is saying. The result of this scenario is that you end up using a source that does not actually support what you are saying. At best this appears ignorant and sloppy; at worst this appears misleading and dishonest. As an example, this articlestates that “girls are more likely to be affected by romantic relationships than are boys” (Loftus et al., 2011, p. 801) and backs this up by citing a chapter by Carol Gilligan (1996). Unfortunately, that was not the message of Gilligan’s chapter at all, and so I believe it was a poor choice of those authors to cite that source the way they did.For this week’s discussion, please share an article that you cited in your literature review, and then share one other article that cites the article that you chose.Explain how the authors of the second article used the first article: what did the authors of the second article claim or imply about the first article?Based on your understanding of the first article (this is the article that you are citing in your literature review), how accurately do you believe the second article’s authors represented the first article? How well did the first article fit into the second article’s aims and scope? Please answer the questions above and offer some critique here, since every citation is an act of interpretation to an extent, and thus there is always room for us to critique that interpretation. Please remember to use in-text citations and provide references for both articles.References:Gilligan, C. Psychology  Anyone good with Educational Psychology?

1. Does all negative reinforcement decrease behavior? Why or why not?2. After being told repeatedly by her mother not to ski without proper eyewear, Samantha sustains snow blindness and eye burn, ruining the remainder of her ski trip. What effect might this have on her choice to use eyewear in the future? Why might this natural consequence have more of an effect on her behavior than actions taken by her mother’s nagging?3. When 8-year-old Barry cannot get his way with his mother, she begins to whine. Barry’s mother finds that if she gives Barry a cup of cocoa and talks about what’s bothering him, the whining stops. However, Barry’s mother is puzzled because Barry’s whining is getting more frequent. Why?4. A local psychologist recommended to Barry’s mother (above scenario) that she ignore the whining. Barry’s mother tried this on two consecutive occasions and the whining got worse! Barry’s mother is about to sue the psychologist for malpractice, but in your wisdom you point out what process the psychologist had in mind and the phenomenon which has occurred. Explain.5. Twins Jacob and Jeremy are arguing about who gets to use their Nerf gun next. Their mother takes away the gun and says that she will return it when they have played nicely for 10 minutes. What two processes has she used in order to achieve the results she wanted? Why would it be better to use the two contingencies together rather than to use one alone?6. Mathias, an 11th grader, sassed his mother. As a result, his mother told him he could not drive his car for a week. This is an example of …?7. Before rolling the dice in Monopoly, Charlie blew on them. He landed on Free Parking and collected a $1,000 bonus. What effect, if any, might this likely to have on his behavior the next time he rolls the dice? If this occurrence had an effect, what process would be operating, and what would be likely to happen to the effect over time?8. Mr. Jones asked for a volunteer to go to the blackboard to work a math problem. After several seconds of silence, he finally said, “Well, then, I’ll do it myself.” The class was then more likely to respond with silence to requests for volunteers. What process was operating?9. Andrew is the class clown. The teacher knows that Andew acts silly to get the attention of the other students. The teacher talks to the class one day when Andrew is absent and agrees that in the afternoon, if everyone does not laugh at John’s silliness, they be allowed 15 minutes extra free time. As a result, Andew’s silly behavior has decreased. By what process has John’s silliness decreased (be specific as to the type)?10. Mrs. Jones, a 7th grade teacher, told another teacher in the lounge that she is “fed up with her class’ misbehavior and disrespect.” “From now on I’m going to start using some negative reinforcement. Students who misbehave in my class will have to copy a page from the dictionary.” What, if anything, is wrong with Mrs. Jones’ statement? What, if you answered that it is incorrect, does she really mean?

Psychology  the topic is Harlow’s pit of despair

You have a 6-7 page paper to write on a scandal or controversy in psychology. As George Santayana wrote, “Those, who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” This paper gives you a chance to learn more about psychology’s less-than-glorious past, particularly as a way (hopefully) to refrain from being condemned. A crucial aspect of your paper is this: how does this scandal or controversy affect psychology today? Think about social perceptions, policy decisions, ethics responses, and current responses by profession. The purpose of this assignment is to analyze instances where psychology has not lived up to its principles.the topic is Harlow’s pit of despairthis paper needs to be in APA formatit needs to involve “I” because you are showing your voice on how you feel about the experiment (ex: I feel like this experiment plays)You can include as many articles as you want.     it needs to be in a time new roman 12 front double page.https://www.verywellmind.com/harry-harlow-biography-1905-1981-2795510Harlow, H., Dodsworth, R., & Harlow, M.
