drawing on Hall’s article on identity formation (and as always: keep previous articles in mind and use them for your own reflection if possible) elaborate how Islamophobia in the U.S. could provide nurturing grounds for Islamic fundamentalism to grow and spread. The NYT article “Muslims Being Confronted at Pool: We are Portrayed as Troublemakers” (July 26, 2018) will help you in understanding more deeply what Islamophobia means for everyday Muslims living in the U.S. These questions are particularily pressing during times of regular attacks against Muslims and the Muslim community in New Zealand, the U.S., and Europe.

Psychology  apl2

ObjectivesThese reflection and application writing assignments are designed to connect what you are learning conceptually in class to your own life or what you see in the world around you. These assignments also offer an opportunity to practice communicating about psychological concepts.Reflection PromptIn class (and in the book), you learned about the concept of functional fixedness—the tendency to think about an object only in terms of its typical use.  One example would be using duct tape ONLY to hold things together.  But,  you could also use duct tape to get a splinter out of your finger or as a band aid.  Describe TWO ways that you (or someone you know) have overcome functional fixedness.  How do you think this relates to creativity? What would be a next research question about this topic?Formatting and StyleThis reflection should be about 1 page (typed/double-spaced) in length and will not require additional research outside of your book and/or lecture material, though you are welcome to add outside research if you wish.  If you are using direct quotes from the book to make connections, remember to cite your book as a reference (any style is acceptable, just make sure to give credit where credit it due!). If you are using content from knowledge you have learned in class lectures, you do not need to cite.

Psychology  Psychology Short Questions

Due Today on March 21, 2020Please answer before 10:00 pm.Short answersPlease keep it simple.A) In the following scenarios, try to imagine the brain of a person with the described head injury. What do you think is going wrong in each case? What are some alternatives?A man comes in after falling from a ladder. He is having trouble with his vision and balance and seems to have difficulty keeping his emotions in check. What structures of his brain might be affected and why? Where do you think his injury was? Consider different possibilities and try to discuss various alternatives.A woman has had a stroke and is having trouble with language. She understands what people say to her but can no longer read, even though her vision is perfect. She also has real difficulty speaking – she speaks in kind of a telegraphic style, so that when she thinks it’s hot and we should turn on the air conditioner she says, “hot… turn…”, trying to speak normally but leaving out most of the sentence, clearly frustrated. What structures do you think were affected by her stroke? Again, try to consider the whole system and various possibilities.B)Choose an important activity (for example, giving a presentation in class, helping someone in distress, going on a first date — you can choose any activity at all) and discuss how specific structures of the a) limbic system, b) brainstem, and c) cerebellum may be involved.

I trust my brother so much to make wise decisions. You are so much like him. So I trust you will make the right decision.” The consultant finally agrees and allows the patient to be discharged. Psychology  systems approach

In this course, you will be asked to select one case study and to use it throughout the entire course. By doing this, you will have the opportunity to see how theories guide your view of a client and the client’s presenting problem. Although the case may be the same, each time you use a different theory, your perspective of the problem changes, which then changes how you go about asking the assessment questions and how you intervene. The first theoretical approach you will use to apply to a case study is systems theory. In other words, your theoretical orientation—your lens—will be systems theory as you analyze a social work case study.Different theories can be used to take a systems approach. For example, Bertalanffy’s General Systems Theory considers how a system is made of smaller subsystems that influence each other and seek homeostasis, whereas Brofennerbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory focuses on how an individual’s experience is influenced by different system levels (micro, meso, exo, macro, and chrono). Systems theory is commonly used to understand the interrelationships of the systems (e.g., family, community, organizations, society) of the client. If you are working with families, communities, and organizations, it is also beneficial to use systems theory to get a holistic picture of all the interrelated parts of the system. To prepare: Select and focus on one of four case studies listed in the Learning Resources. You will use this same case study throughout the course.By Day 7Focus on the identified client within your chosen case.Analyze the case using a systems approach, taking into consideration both family and community systems.Complete and submit the “Dissecting a Theory and Its Application to a Case Study” worksheet based on your analysis.
