Psychology  interview of a counselor 6-8 pages

PYCL 515 Assignment #3 – Interview of a School Counselor (FPEC 2.7, 4.8, 7, 7.1) (10 points) Given the vast needs of students, families, schools, and communities, the role of the school counselor is varied and extensive. The traditional activities of the school counselor include individual counseling, small group counseling, large group counseling, consultation, and collaboration. In addition to these traditional school counseling activities, school counselors regularly contribute to the development of school, agency, community, and/or public policies and procedures that advocate for effective programs and services to benefit all children, youth, and families. They promote mental health in schools and collaborate with professionals in providing safe and violence free schools and communities. School  13 counselors use their knowledge of professional and legal standards to advocate for the rights and welfare of children and families and promote practices that help children and families of all backgrounds feel welcome in the school community. School counselors provide leadership in schools and other agencies in understanding and using research and evaluation data and clearly present and disseminate information to diverse audiences to promote improvement in instruction and student achievement. It is important to hear first-hand from school counselors in the field regarding their job and daily experiences. In addition to conducting an interview of one school counselor, you will also have the opportunity to hear from your peers about their interviews with other school counselors. Therefore, you will hear about a wide array of school counselors and school counseling programs. In order to complete the written part of this assignment, candidates need to fully understand the ASCA National Model. Candidates will compare and contrast the school’s counseling program with the knowledge of the ASCA National Model. This paper is expected to be 6-8 pages in length (excluding title page) following APA style. 1. Interview a professional school counselor at the grade level that interests you (elementary, middle, or high school; public or private school) at his or her work site. Phone interviews are not allowed nor are interviews of the school counselor(s) at the school in which you already work. Candidates must use the interview questions below to guide the interview (make sure you ask the questions in this interview form plus any other questions you may want to ask the school counselor). 2. After completing the interview, write a report following this outline: I. Introduction- Include information about the school counselor and the school (address, environment, grade level, type of school setting, type of population, your observations, etc.) (1 page) II. Describe the school counselor’s answers to each question and your reaction. Make sure to use headers to separate each question. (3-4 pages) a. Provide a summary of the school counselor’s responses- this should not be what the counselor said verbatim, but instead should be a summary in your own words b. Describe your reaction to each of the school counselor’s responses. Your reaction should be based on what you have learned in this class and your own impressions as well. III. Conclusion- Answer the following questions (2-3 pages): a. What was your overall impression of the school counseling program at this school? b. What similarities in counseling style do you see between yourself and the school counselor you interviewed? c. What differences in counseling style do you see between yourself and the school counselor you interviewed? d. What can be done to enhance this school counseling program? 14 Candidates must be prepared to discuss their findings in class during the 2nd weekend. Your presentation should be organized and of professional quality. The use of PowerPoint or other presentation software is highly recommended. Interview questions: The interview questions should address at least the following topics (you can also create your own questions, but make sure that you at least touch on all the following topics): 1. What is your training/education experience? In what ways did your training prepare you well for this job? In what areas was your training lacking? 2. Do you have a structured school counseling program or plan that you follow for each year? Do you refer students to services outside of school (or perhaps they have an in-school counseling center)? What type of problems/students do you typically refer out? 8. Who are your professional peers? Do you work with other school counselors and/or school staff, or do you work alone most of the time? 9. When making decisions about the school counseling program, with whom do you collaborate? Do you use data to enhance the school counseling program? 10. Please tell me about your counseling style and techniques you use. 11. What strategies do you use to make students aware of promotion requirements (i.e., promotion to the next grade level or graduation requirements)? 12. Please tell me how you help students transition to the school, or prepare them for transition to the next level (e.g., middle/high/college/career)? 13. Does your school have a crisis management or emergency/safety plan? If so, can you tell me about your role in this plan? 14. How does the school counseling department promote college and career readiness for all of your school’s students? 15. What do you like best about your job? What do you like least about your job? Psychology  Focus on Integrative and Collaborative Care

The collaborative practice of clinicians across disciplines requires a shared language, appreciation of diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms, and recognition of appropriate roles within the health care team.  This collaborative environment is at the heart of a health care system that utilizes the skills and expertise of all its team members in appropriate and extended roles. This model of care delivery is often called integrated care (IC) or collaborative care (CC). Although this model is endorsed by many professional societies and agencies, the CC/IC care delivery model can fail due to multiple factors. Consider the clinical partnerships that result within the CC/IC delivery model. Integrating concepts developed from different content domains in psychology, address the following questions(1)How might health care teams achieve therapeutic goals for individual clients?(2)How does this support health literacy?(3)What factors might lead to the failure of the CC/IC delivery model?(4)How might lack of acceptance of the value or viability of the CC/IC model by stakeholders, lack of awareness of the clinical competencies of various members of the team, barriers to financial reimbursement for services, and lack of integration of support services within the practice cause a breakdown in efficacy?(5)What supportive interventions within the CC/IC model address such issues? In addition, consider how successful health care models assume an understanding of each profession’s competencies and responsibilities. For example, primary care providers (PCPs) are sometimes unaware of the abilities and practice scope of psychology professionals. Address the following questions(1)Identify methods of targeted intervention and education for PCPs that might alleviate potential issues for the CC/IC model(2)Explain how the APA Ethical Code of Conduct can be used to guide decisions in these complex situations(3)Evaluate and comment on the potential work settings where you might find the CC/IC model. In what ways might this model provide more job satisfaction?

Psychology  Discussion Response

The quantitative research study I selected for this week was by Haggard et al. (2019), that focused on the supraliminal and subliminal religious priming and how it increased benevolent sexism. The purpose of this study was to fill the gap left by many previous studies that mainly focused on a correlation between religion and sexism, without going deeper to look at how religious priming impacts sexism. Four different methods were used to collect data, from different countries, with participants being Catholic, atheist and/or theist. The four different studies looked at religious priming impacted sexism (Haggard et al., 2019, p. 393).As Dietz & Kalof (2009, p. 4) explain, a model has the form of Y = f(X) + E, where the dependent variable is Y, the independent variable is X and E is the error. Using this model, for the study by Haggard et al. (2019), the dependent variable (Y) would be sexism, and the independent variable (X) would be religious priming. Everything else that would impact the dependent variable would be an error (Dietz & Kalof, 2009, p. 12), which is represented by E. There must always be the assumption in research that the model will contain error (Dietz & Kalof, 2009, p. 21). In the case of the study by Haggard et al. (2019), anything other than the religious priming that impacts sexism would be an error. Some of the errors that would have occurred are sampling error, because they may not speak for the rest of the population. Haggard et al. (2019, p. 396), state that they cannot confirm the “…participants’ true level of awareness of the primes in each of studies, though those who explicitly reported awareness of the primes or their potential impact were removed from further investigation in all cases…”. Measurement error is another type of error that could occur because as Dietz & Kalof (2009, p. 17) mention, that most variables being studied will involve some mismeasurement. This goes back to the earlier discussion where Haggard et al. (2019, p. 396) could not confirm all participants level of awareness to priming, and the differences in level of understanding could cause measurement error and skew results.ReferencesDietz, T., & Kalof, L. Psychology  Response

This discussion is focused on the accusations made against Jason, a college student, of manufacturing and distributing methamphetamine that will be further studied and examined. It is vital to recognize that social psychologists concentrate and focus on their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors guided and influenced by others (Aronson et al., 2019).Applying a social psychology approach with Jason, analysis is done in a slightly different process involving how the individual is affected within the context of the social situation and how much comprehension Jason had on the situation (Aronson et al., 2019). The terminology traditionally used by social psychologists is the word construal, and we can define it as how individuals recognize, understand, and explain the social reality around them (Aronson et al., 2019). This form of comprehension is essential because it communicates how valuable this kind of information can be for the rest of us to understand how people essentially see the world and how this reality is influenced in the social context (Aronson et al., 2019).Methamphetamine is primarily associated with increased energy, alertness, insomnia, and decreased appetite (Lende et al., 2009). According to the pharmacological report, methamphetamine is considered a long-acting stimulant that promotes overindulgence and lengthening its consequences from several hours to several days when taken repeatedly (Lende et al., 2009). This type of medication is very prevalent amongst college students, including those whose jobs expect them to work long hours or require them to be physically demanding (Lende et al., 2009). By taking the medication’s information in question, the likelihood that more students, including staff members of the University, are either purchasing methamphetamines or using it without a prescription. The supply and demand for medications that include methamphetamine at the public University level are very high and exceptionally prevalent. Jason is currently in medical school that demands the student to be fully alert, and the cost of staying in school without having a full-time job requires an inventive career choice. The supply and demand were available to Jason, including the popularity of methamphetamines use among the University society making it more of a socially accepted drug of choice to confirm the logic behind Jason’s choice. To be fair to Jason and the rest of the students and staff at the University, they should include everyone in mandatory drug testing for methamphetamines and receive the same punishment if found positive without a prescription.References:Aronson, E., Wilson, T.
