Some tips to consider for your article summaries:Method–research design—-qualitative (themes, focus groups, interviews, semi-structured interviews, etc.); quantitative (statistical analysis, instruments, surveys, etc.); mixed methods (combination of qualitative and quantitative and you need to describe both types of data collection in the article). Don’t just state the research design——describe how you know it is that design.Participants—-initial sample size, how was the sample chosen, how did the participant sample represent the purpose of the study?, what population may have not been included and why not?—–convenience? participants drop out?Ethical and cultural considerations—Were there language considerations, did the research take place in a country other than the US and what does that mean for using the info in America? Does it offer new information to support diverse or marginalized populations, institutional review board, sensitive to the cultural context and language of the participants? Did the researchers obtain informed consent and what procedures were in place to protect participants?Data collected—What data was collected from the participants and how was it used to answer the research questions? (name of the assessment instruments, interviews, observations, etc)Outcomes—what did the researchers learn?—often in the implications, future research, and discussion sections— what was the answer to the study research question?
