Psychology  Discussion: Patriotism and Purpose

Each military branch has protocols—types of ceremony and etiquette—that serve various purposes, including to commemorate particular events or to display respect to the nation, the president, or particular individuals. These protocols and ceremonial assignments have a rich history and a permanent place within military culture. They often promote and sustain feelings of patriotism that can also influence the identity of military personnel.Think about how your knowledge of military assignments and their role in the development of patriotism and purpose of military personnel will add to your competence as a helping professional. For this Discussion, you research a military assignment to learn more about how it relates to patriotism and identity development in the military. As you conduct your research, be sure to note the roles and ceremonial protocol within the assignment, as well as any interesting nuances that you discover.***Military Funeral Detail  1 – 2 pagesa summary of the military assignment you selected, including the roles and ceremonial protocol, as well as interesting nuances within the assignment. Psychology  adult learning

best practices/adult learners/educationwrite a 3-4 page paper on best practices in adult education in terms of constructivism and self-directed learning. Please utilize below this information for this:*** Explains best practices for communicating with adult learners and identifies possible consequences of not using best practices on adult learners.A.  Constructivism and Self-Directed Learning Best Practices§  There are six best practices for adult learners that were prevalent through most research; communication, active learning, prompt feedback, giving deadlines with adequate time, clear objectives and respecting diverse interests and ways of learning (Grant & Thronton, 2007; Keengwe & Kidd, 2010; Castellanos & Gloria, 2007; Fram & Camp, 1995).1.  Communication – This principle of best practice is important in any classroom pedagogy or andragogy.a.  Grant et al. (2007) found that interaction between learner and instructor builds a wonderful foundation to building an online or in person classroom community.b.  A dialogue heavy instructor creates a communication bridge for all learners (Keengwe et al., 2010)2.  Active Learning – Active learning is a concept that is where learners active participation in the classa.  Fram et al. (1995) found that active learning increases student performanceb.  Giving learners the ability to connect information based on past experiences can be important to active learning.3.  Prompt Feedbacka.  Grant et al (2007) found that learners who thought the instructor gave prompt feedback consistently helped with student retention.4.  Deadlines with adequate timea.  When an instructor sets clear and objective deadlines for assessments, it gives students the ability to do the work on their own time within that scheduled time frame.b.  This could give learners the ability to look over materials and ask appropriate questions where necessary.5.  Clear Objectivesa.  When learners have clear unit, weekly or monthly course objectives and goals it can be used as a sort of standard on what is supposed to be learnedb.  Fram et al. (1995) found that having these objectives in the course room allowed for learners to make sure they were achieving these benchmarks.c.  It can also be said that having these benchmarks are important for instructors to make sure the learners are actively understanding the materials.6.  Diversitya.  In the classroom, an instructor will have learners from all different backgrounds and learning styles.b.  Keengwe et al. (2010) found that instructors who offered a diverse range of materials for different learning styles had learners who excelled more frequently than those who did not diversify their materials or resources.B.  If instructors do not implement best practice into their classroom, it can hinder progress of learners. It can also reflect poorly on the instructor as the learners are not exceling like they should in the course because of things that are not implemented in the course.Analyzes best practices for communicating with adult learners and identifies roadblocks for using best practices methodologies.

Psychology  response

Your post must be written in your own wordsWhen you refer to sources, use APA format citations (in-text citations and a reference list; see the APA resources in Canvas)Respond to 2 other students’ posts. Your responses have no specific length requirements, but you need to refer to something in the student’s post, showing that you read it (something like “I agree” or “Interesting!” is not enough for the points). If you respond to a student that initially responded to you, that also counts as one of your responses (the idea is obviously to generate discussion here)GRADING:10 points for your own post: You get the full points if you respond to questions 1 and 2 with at least 10 sentences for each part. Your opinions, ideas and experiences are not graded for “accuracy”REFLECTION TOPICS:This week’s assignment has two parts: sleep and psychoactive drugs. Each part is 5 points: respond to both for the full 10 points. Both parts must be 10 sentences or more.1. Sleep (5 points)For part 1, pick ONE of the topics below (A or B) and respond to it with about 10 sentences or more:A) SLEEP-WAKE CYCLEThe 24-hour sleep-wake cycle is an example of a circadian rhythm. Have you ever experienced jet lag? Or felt disoriented when changing from a day shift to night shift at work? Or felt groggy from spending a lot of the day in the dark? Been sleep-deprived for various reasons? What was your experience, how did it feel? Sources are not required, but if you refer to sources, cite them in APA format as always.OR:B) SLEEP DISORDERSResearch a sleep disorder and report what you discovered. If you have personal experiences or know someone who suffers from a sleep disorder, feel free to discuss your experiences or observations. If you have tried or heard about possible treatments or tips for what helps with insomnia or other sleep disorders, you can discuss those too. If you cite a source, use APA format as always.2. Psychoactive drugs (5 points; respond with about 10 sentences or more)Pick a psychoactive drug (e.g. marijuana, alcohol, heroin, LSD or some other hallucinogenic drug, anesthetic drugs etc.) and investigate its effects on the brain and consciousness. Cite at least one reliable outside source using APA format. Report about how the drug affects the brain and what its primary psychological effects are. Feel free to discuss other interesting information about the drug (history, medical use, legal issues, cultural or religious use, etc.)Alternatively, pick another type of activity that potentially alters consciousness (e.g. hypnosis, meditation), and investigate its effects on the brain, cognition and consciousness. Cite at least one reliable outside source using APA format. If you want, check out this Mouse Party (link below): select a mouse, drag it to the chair and view the brain effects of the drug that the mouse has taken (this all makes sense when you go through the exercise!). Mouse Party used to require Flash which is no longer supported. It didn’t function for a while, but now it’s back. I noticed that it was easiest to use this new version with Internet Explorer. Firefox worked too, and Chrome was the hardest although it worked after multiple tries. I had some trouble placing the mouse on the chair, but it succeeded when I dropped the mouse right on top of the right side of the chair. Play around with it and see if you can view it:https://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/addiction/mouse/

Psychology  Psychology

I created an assignment that will give students more autonomy for their learning. The assignment intends to engage student knowledge base and critical thinking skills. This assignment provides a new approach to instruction and assessment of learning. I have found that students are both apprehensive and anxious to create a project to demonstrate learning. They wonder whether they are on the right track or if they have enough information. They want to make sure that it is exactly what the instructor wants, which makes them think about the theories more critically. I find that assignments of this approach require students to come out of their comfort zone, apply the learned material, and to make it meaningful and practical for the project. They are nervous about the freedom that such an approach allows them in academe. Students have been conditioned to the textbook and multiple choice formats, just as instructors have been conditioned. I admit that it requires time for everyone to adapt to change. However, by the end of the semester, students are proud of their work. I enjoy reading the completed assignments and acknowledging the variety of perspectives and approaches that are presented. Students can be creative when they are given the opportunity. The following exert was taken from http://www.psychotherapy.org.uk/constructivists.htmlThe information from the College of Psychotherapies expresses my sentiments about constructivism and the rational for this assignment.Philosophical positionConstructivism as a philosophical stance sees the world’s ‘reality’ as mediated through the experience of each individual. This is not to deny the reality of lived experience, rather that a person can change their lived experience by making sense of the world in different ways. Constructivist positions see existence as contextual and relational. The act of the construal – i.e. making both sense and meaning of being human – can only be understood in terms of living in a shared world which is socially negotiated through shared perspectives with others. This understanding affirms the engaged reality of the other and proposes that how everyone lives in the moment is always ethical, for example, based on the principle of personal integrity. In other words, how we perceive and describe the world and others who inhabit it with us, is always an ethical act.One of the advantages of the Constructivist approach is that it emphasizes ‘fit’, not as in fittest but as in good enough fit with ‘reality’ rather than minds content. Therefore, it tells us not what to think but rather how to explore and understand why we think and experience the way we do.The AssignmentDevelopmental Psychology Project (100 points possible)As a class, we will have discussed multiple theories of development throughout the semester. The project requires that you analyze three (3) of the following theories related to development: Freud; Erikson; Vygotsky; Piaget; Bandura; Schaie; KohlbergReview the theories of the aforementioned theorists. Select only three of the theories to use for this project. Consider what area of focus most resonates with you. You will synthesize/integrate information from the three theories to create your own theory. You must contribute your own ideas, which should be based on perspectives you believe were neglected by the theorists or not well supported. That is, if you find that you wanted more from a particular theory, you should incorporate those ideas into your newly created theory.* You are to develop your own theory that addresses one area of focus of lifespan development, such as cognitive development, physical development, personality development, etc. You should refer to your chosen three theorists, but must not copy a stage from any theorists verbatim.1. Write a narrative to clearly describe, define, and explain your theory.2. Provide rationale for your selected components/stages of development.3. Create a visual (i.e. chart, table, diagram, etc.) of your theory, which depicts major components and descriptions. This visual should be on its own page, so that your theory is clearly depicted and easy to follow. It should be a standalone visual of your theory narrative (i.e. one-page chart or table).-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Grading Rubric for the ProjectPOINTS POSSIBLEProficientEmerging/IndicatedNot ThereSelect and Reference to only three (3) theorist/theories from the list providedUse of 3 Theories10 pointsUse of 2 Theories4 pointsUse of 1 Theory0 pointsEvidence of synthesis and integration of stages from selected theoriesUse of 3 Theories10 pointsUse of 2 Theories4 pointsUse of 1 Theory0 pointsDevelopmental components/stages are clearly defined and presented in a logical and practical manner30140Rationale clearly indicated for the components/stages of your new theory20100English Language Standards, including grammar, spelling, etc.100Visual Representation clearly depicts your new theory (chart, table, diagram)20100TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE 100
