Psychology  Suicide Assessment

Effective suicide prevention counseling can literally save a life. With timely interventions, treatment and support, suicides and suicide attempts can be prevented. In crisis counseling, how you encounter the suicidal client may differ from the traditional face-to-face interactions we typically consider for long-term care. Some suicidal clients reach out with a phone call or online messaging. Other times we are given a written case referral and asked to consult for immediate safety planning. Since we encounter suicidal clients in a variety of platforms, this discussion is designated to help you not only perfect your skills in determining how to assess and intervene with a suicidal client, but also to consider the impact of how the client information is presented on our decision making regarding best client care.In this Discussion, you will be assigned a particular case presentation to review. Students with the last name A–I will watch the video recording as if working with a face-to-face or online client. Students with the last name J–R will review the transcript as if given a written referral. Students with the last name S–Z will listen to the audio recording as if speaking to a client by phone. Based on your assigned format, you will assess for risk factors and begin safety planning for your client. To Prepare:Download the transcript and review the video Facilitative Response Activity. You can download the transcript for future reference with clients.Review the video How to accurately assess and help a client by Dr. Sue Banks and Dr. Michelle Slater.Based on your last name, review the case presentation for Robert in the Suicide assessment and safety planning link using the format assigned.Note: When the media resource is accessed and appears, please make certain that you choose the format that coincides with the group you are assigned. Students with the last name A–I will watch the video recording. Students with the last name J–R will use the written transcript. Students with the last name S–Z will listen to the audio recording.By Day 3Post your responses to the following:The type of interaction you reviewed of Robert (i.e., written, video, or audio)Risk factors for RobertThings you would like to know about Robert (i.e., what information is missing?)Components you think will be important to include in a safety plan for RobertNote: For this discussion, you are required to complete your initial post before you will be able to view and respond to your colleagues’ postings. 4/11Your brochure should be a total of one page front and back (or two pages, single-sided). It should be professionally presented and include elements that would help a community group understand the scope of the family violence that you are describing, as well as strategies to prevent and intervene in such situations. Consider using graphs, photos, and illustrations to enhance your brochure.

Please read carefully this is two different  Discussion must be done separatelyCervone, D., & Pervin, L. A. (2019). Personality: Theory and research (14th ed.). Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley & Sons, Inc.Chapter 1, “Personality Theory: From Everyday Observations to Systematic Theories” (pp. 1–25)This first chapter of the text explores a range of influences on personality and is a key resource for completing the Discussion and Assignment this week.Discussion Spark – Week 1COLLAPSEAre we, and our personalities, destined to be prisoners of our past? Personality developed from the Latin word ‘persona’ meaning mask. Are we simply wearing a mask of personalities? Does this mean our personalities are fixed? Why or why not? Are there determinants that lead to development, evolution, and change in our personalities? If so, what? Please read your chapter, then respond with reflective, personal thought and support from learned information.Discussion SparkBy Day 1Read the Discussion Spark topic/question or comment posted by your Instructor in the Discussion Thread.By Day 2With these thoughts in mind:Post a 1- to 2-paragraph response to the Discussion Spark.Discussion wk1Discussion: Your Perspective on PersonalityWhy are people the way they are? Think about the number of times you have asked that question or some variation of it. You might be asking out of frustration or from admiration of a specific someone. It might be in reference to yourself. Wondering what shapes the way individuals feel, think, and behave is certainly a common question. It may be a question that links all human beings, perhaps from the time the first cave dweller confounded another! There are answers to that question—in fact, more than one. As you may have noticed while reading the Learning Resources this week, there are multiple explanations for the development of personality, defined as psychological qualities that contribute to an individual’s enduring and distinctive patterns of feeling, thinking, and behaving. As you read, your own experiences with both the vast differences and the similarities among individuals may have made some explanations seem more plausible than others. For this Discussion, you will review the factors that influence personality discussed in the Week 1 Learning Resources. You will consider the rationale for each factor and provide your views on which individual factor—or combination of factors—has the biggest impact on personality. To prepare:Review information in the Learning Resources related to each of the following factors that influence personality:Genetic determinantsEnvironmental determinantsCultureSocial classFamilyPeersReflect on your experiences that can help in evaluating the impact of these factors on personality.Consider arguments in the Learning Resources for each factor.Consider the factor(s) you view as having the most influence and the least influence on personality development.By Day 3Post a response that includes the following:Explain the single factor or combination of factors that you view as having the most influence on personality. Cite arguments from the Learning Resources in support of your chosen factor(s).Identify a factor that you view as having the least impact on personality development and explain your reasoning.Note: Be sure to support the responses within your initial Discussion post (and in your colleague reply) with information obtained from the assigned Learning Resources, including in-text citations and a reference list for sources used. For information regarding how your Discussion will be evaluated, please review the grading rubric located in the Course Information area of the course.By Day 5Respond to at least one of your colleagues in one or more of the following ways:Ask a probing question and provide insight into how you would answer your question and why.Ask a probing question and provide the foundation, or rationale, for the question.Expand on your colleague’s posting by offering a new perspective or insight.Agree with a colleague and offer additional (new) supporting information for consideration.Disagree with a colleague by respectfully discussing and supporting a different perspective.Support your reply to a colleague’s post with at least one reference (textbook or other scholarly, empirical resources). You may state your opinion and/or provide personal examples; however, you must also back up your assertions with evidence (including in-text citations) from the source and provide a reference.Important Note: For all Discussions in this course, you are required to complete your initial post before you will be able to view and respond to your colleague’s postings. Begin by clicking on the “Post to Discussion” link and then select “Create Thread” to complete your inital post. Remember, once you click submit, you cannot delete or edit your own posts, and cannot post anonymously. Please check your post carefully before clicking Submit!
